Visas in Huge Demand for Successful International Students

For international students who hope to work in South Florida, Monday is a big day. It's the first day employers can begin applying for H-1B visas, which allows them to hire specialized foreign workers on a temporary basis for the fiscal year beginning in October. In 2011-2012, South Florida employers made more than 7,000 requests for the visas, according to a Brookings Institution study.

Two Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, frustrated by the limits on high-tech visas, have hatched a plan to build a start-up colony in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.The plan for a start-up colony in the middle of the Pacific Ocean is to park a leased cruise ship 12 nautical miles off the coast of Northern California in international waters that could house 1,000 entrepreneurs plus crew. The ship would have cafes, a gym, co-working space, ship-wide high-speed Internet access, medical professionals and a private security force.
